KOTKAPURA: Jasvir Singh, a famous kabbadi player of the area, has been allegedly subjected to third degree torture by the local police.
The abuse took place at the instance of a police official whose niece has a marital dispute with the victim.
22-year-old Jasvir was allegedly picked up by the Kotkapura police at the instance of his wife''s maternal uncle, Suba Singh, who is part of the security detail with former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The victim was allegedly brutally tortured for two days at the city police station here.
The victim was medically examined at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, on the directions of additional chief judicial magistrate Faridkot.
The court has also summoned the Kotkapura SHO to explain the matter. The victim has written to Punjab Human Rights Commission, DGP Punjab and other higher authorities for registration of a case against SHO Nachhatar Singh, ASI Iqbal Singh and his wife''s uncle Suba Singh.

The victim, Jasvir Singh (22), a renowned kabaddi player of the area, was taken from his village Gurusar, near here on June 2 by ASI Iqbal Singh, Suba Singh and some other police personnel.
He was brought to the police station where Iqbal Singh and two constables allegedly tortured him for two days in the presence of SHO Nachhatar Singh.
He was released on the evening of June 3 on account of political intervention. Then, he was immediately produced before the additional chief judicial magistrate Anita Kumari at Faridkot who ordered his medical examination and also issued summons to the accused police men.
The medico-legal examination of the victim confirmed signs of torture.
Police authorities denied the allegations. However, they admitted that Jasvir had a matrimonial dispute with his wife regarding which a complaint was made by his in-laws.
Suba Singh was not available for comments.
